About

Lovin’ me some 2D MORPG. I am a die-hard fan of the 8- and 16-bit videogame console generations. The Game Boy and Sega Genesis, among various other gaming platforms, fostered my imagination and birthed a new appreciation for pixel art. Colorful environments, challenging gameplay, and catchy tunes are all part of warm, everlasting memories. I very much prefer the 2D aesthetic, it is the true art style of videogames.

That’s great, but what the hell is an MORPG? One letter short of the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) acronym? The explanation is simple and also negligible.

Multiplayer online role-playing game or MORPG is a subcategory of the MMO genre, perhaps even niche. This type of online game may also be referred to as an ORPG (online role-playing game) by the community. Unlike their older sibling, MORPGs are on a much smaller scale, supporting fewer than 500 or less players simultaneously due to the technologies involved. Most often employ 2D graphics instead of polygons.  Beyond these simple facts, gameplay and design is similar to MMORPGs. Indie lovers and casual gamers will feel right at home.

I’m learning everything as I go. Blogs are new to me, but the constant desire to improve my writing is an old hat.  Zajen.com is my creative outlet and aims to report on the many games and developers who call the 2D MORPG scene home.
