Lethe is an open source engine programmed in Visual Basic .Net and is still in development, but today marks the availability of its user interface (UI).  The first beta build is complete and has been released by co-developer, Toast. .NET Framework 2.0 or later is required to successfully run the current version of the UI.  For more information about the XML Designer and its themes and elements, please visit the announcement thread located at the Online Game Core. The download link as well as a list of elements can be found there as well.

Challenger Approaching! Malachite Appears!

February 18, 2010 · 4 Comments

Welcome another entrant to the MORPG engine arena!  An inexperienced warrior compared to its more battle-hardened competition, but a wise adversary would be cautious.  Monoxide has returned with an engine coded from scratch bearing the name of the green mineral, Malachite.  Visual Basic 6 is the language of choice and DirectX 8 for rendering purposes.  Seamless maps and extra map layers (already implemented) are among planned features and the developer is open to suggestions.  An early build of Malachite has been made available and can be downloaded here.  Note that this is a preparatory release with few capabilities and is intended for testing.  Tutorials are accessible via the forums to help users deal with the preliminary rough edges.

Visit the official website for more screenshots and information.

RPGCreation Ranks It Up

February 16, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Pending RPGCreation logo.

Many topsites rank MMOs, but few focus solely on the 2D MORPG.  RPGCreation launched last week and several games have already joined.  Not only will visitors be able to vote for their favorites, but engine of choice and game creation resources as well.  Offering graphic, audio, or web services?  Be wise and add your portfolio or website to better market your talents.

Developers and players wishing to discuss the listed MORPGs may do so by registering on the forums.  Consider the current condition of RPGCreation to be in beta as founder Mark Morris will be tweaking the layout and forum style.

Mario needs to go fix broken pipes elsewhere.  I’m sure that peachy princess is in the hands of some mutated fire-breathing reptile or stuck in a random, poorly defended castle somewhere.

A future MORPG directory? Let's make it happen!
