It seems developers received an extra present this holiday season. James of the Online Game Core has decided to make Playerworlds (PW) an open source engine. The source was released late Christmas evening and a download link followed soon after. Tutorials on the general use of PW and bug fixes are encouraged and may result in a new and hopefully improved version build. Get crackin’ devs! Odyssey Returns
December 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Odyssey Online Classic, a game some would consider to be one of the founding fathers of our beloved subgenre, is now back online. For months the game server was down, effectively barring its loyal fan base from enjoying Odyssey’s medieval atmosphere and classic gameplay. Luckily, a few dedicated players decided to donate money to purchase a new server and revive the game. Last week marked Odyssey’s return and with it an upgraded web site, fresh forums, several bug fixes, and a flood of players, new and old.
Although Odyssey is free to play, there is a store (sort of like an item mall) for players who choose to spend money for in-game items, player housing, sprite changes, and sets of gear such as the Guardian Pack. The only payment option is through use of a Green Dot MoneyPak available at many retailers (Wal-Mart, Walgreens and others). Please read the store instructions, including its policies here. Oh, and this quest guide might come in handy, too!
Merry Christmas! OMG!

Here’s hoping your morning was filled with much joy, lost of excitement, and expensive gifts galore! Oh, and annoying family members, too. (I’m tired, leave me alone!) To those that celebrate the holiday, Merry Christmas! I apologize for the lack of updates; I got lost in the holiday shuffle. I’ll catch up on news today and be back on the saddle posting with my usual sporadic frequency soon.
Since I successfully failed to plan a Christmas post, blueberry pancakes will suffice for an image. Get some.

Damn, that looks scrumptious! Too bad I had only buttermilk waffles (second best) available this morn.
Thanks for all the support. Thanks for giving Zajen a chance. Much obliged.
Free Quality Tileset (half of one anyway)

I blogged about Tale of Wonder (ToW) a few months ago and was impressed by the MORPG’s graphics. Cute, simple, and bright. Sadly, the game did not last long in the development cycle and developer Konstantin, formerly Punika, has made available Tale of Wonder’s unfinished sprites and tileset free for use with proper credit. Great news for those looking to practice mapping with professional looking 2D graphics. Perhaps another pixel artist can emulate the unique style and expand upon the tileset or draw inspiration from it. ToW official web site.
