Although not as bubbly as other parts of the scene, employment opportunities pop up all the time.
There are many developers and job seekers running around looking for one another. I have decided to gather any information regarding employment into a weekly roundup. My goal with this upcoming feature is to expose more employers to potential employees and to alert the community of new MORPGs in the pipeline. I will try to be as thorough as possible and post my findings every Wednesday and again on Sunday. Of course job postings will also appear on my Twitter timeline to reach as many people as possible. At first there will be only three categories: Engine, MORPG, and Resource. These may be expanded upon in the future, but three will suffice for now.
If you’re a project lead seeking help or a developer who desires a specific staff position feel free to send info to zajenmail@gmail.com so that I may help get the word out.

Just a quick update to express my gratitude to the 2D MORPG community.
I had no idea that our scene would catch onto Zajen.com as it’s had in the past few weeks. I hesitate to advertise due to the fact that I am one lazy blogger, but lo’ and behold you guys and gals found my pet project! The reaction so far has been positive and I’d like to keep it that way. Zajen.com has proven itself to be useful but has yet to reach its lofty goal of emulating Kotaku.com or Massively.com. I have a lot of work ahead (kill me now!) and the support of the 2D MORPG community is vital. If anyone has any tips or suggestions please feel free to contact me at zajenmail@gmail.com. Oh, be sure to follow me on Twitter! News that does not appear on the blog is tweeted about.
Once again thank you for the feedback so far and I hope to continue to be a quick visit in your web browsing journeys.
Keep it up, guys and gals. You’re doing a damn fine job.

Well what do ya know! Another 2D MORPG engine has emerged from the woodwork and with a public Alpha no less! It seems engine development is coming along nicely on all fronts. Novalis aims to be a cross-platform engine (yay Linux!) and requires a basic understanding of C++ to unleash its full potential. Check the download link here: Novalis Alpha 1.0 Download. Engine owner, Krankzinnig, is offering support via tutorials and the help forum.

There are already a few projects hoping to use the engine once a stable release draws near.

Twilli Legends is a 2D side-scroller in which the player is hired into the Royal Escort, Twilli’s elite guard. Charged with maintaining the peace, the medieval setting of Twilli is rife with ferocious monsters and magic, guaranteeing a difficult time for new recruits. Lead developer, Chief, hopes to provide a large world to explore and many items to equip and collect. Check the official thread at the Novalis forums to keep track of this upcoming MORPG.
The Last Bible| IMAGINE (TLBI) is another promising project with a heavy plot driven story. Set in a post apoclolyptic world ravaged by a deadly airborne virus, the remnants of humanity have been split into three species. Humans, Tuners, and Youkai inhabit an Earth plunged into war and chaos. Land is divided among the few remaining nations of old and new factions vying for power in designated Areas (Humans, Tuners) and unpredictable Zones (Youkai, destruction). One interesting feature of the game is the utilization of IDOLs (powerful weapons) by Tuners. For more info please visit this thread.
Be sure to check out other Novalis projects as well.

Billed as the advanced 2D MORPG engine, Genesis 2D’s community has been growing steadily for about a year. Due to the increase of interested developers and MORPG enthusiasts, lead developer, Devogen, has moved the forums to a new host with better performance and more storage. Check it, but don’t forget to register to stay up-to-date on the engines continued march towards release candidate status.
Version 1.0.9 will release soon with new features and many improvements.
WARNING: The screenshots below may induce joygasms.
My complete lack of photo editing skills and WordPress.com’s limited image editing options do not do Genesis 2D justice. Please check this link to see more screenshots in all their glory.
