VGM.NET Switches to Java

August 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Although the engine was never released to the public, SMchronos has decided to rewrite VGM.NET using the Java programming language. It seems there are more projects abandoning Visual Basic 6 for more advanced and portable languages. This is great news for end users and developers alike! I love cross-platform applications (so does Smchronos)! I’m using Linux after all.

Features of the future engine is listed below. Check the link for more information.

* My personal favorite: cross-platform applications
* OpenGL rendering (I like it better than DirectX)
* Ability to embed into web pages (this will be tricky, or require additional coding by me)
* 3D capabilities (I’ve seen it done, and I want to do it too)
* All of VGM.NET’s features

Firecaster Ready for Open Beta

August 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Unlike other MORPGs, Firecaster is developed using the Java programming language. This is the third version of the game, earlier builds included Gamemaker and Mirage source. Firecaster sports a unique battle system that encourages players to become top level characters through skill and not continuous grinding. There are no melee classes, but player versus player battles will focus on magic and teamwork. Labmonkey, Firecaster’s developer, has completed most of the planned features and is in the process of selecting graphics to compliment gameplay. Open beta should be launching soon. Keep your eyes peeled and ears open.
